Does your child complain of leg pain? How often has a parent been told that it is 'growing pains'. Let's talk about what may be the cause of the pain.
I come across children of various ages who suffer leg pain, often after a big day of physical exercise; running, jumping etc. Parents are at a loss to know what to do about the pain, often resorting to medication for relief from the soreness. Medication can be necessary to relieve the symptoms, but what about the cause? In my experience, the most common cause of leg pain are feet problems, particularly poor foot wear or genetics - i.e. flat feet. If this is the case, it is essential that they are assessed by a qualified Paediatric Podiatrist. Most capital cities will have a reputable professional. For those of you in Brisbane, I have one on my Rene Recommends page.
Sadly, parents are often told that the child will come good in time. In other words, do not do anything. Current data shows that a child should NOT have leg pain at all. If your child complains of leg pain, please do yourself a favour, have them checked by a Paediatric Podiatrist and rule out foot/shoe problems before it becomes a permanent problem.
