Rene has a natural affinity with babies and parents and her warm and caring nature makes her perfectly suited to her role.
I first met Rene in June 2004 when my husband and I engaged her to assist us with better managing our baby’s sleep routine. Our baby was four months old at the time. The problems we were facing were all due to our lack of experience as first time parents. For example, I was rocking my baby to sleep in my arms, we were allowing our baby to sleep in our bed and we were getting her out of bed every time she cried. My baby was not sleeping well in the daytime and as a result I was feeling quite tired and stressed. We knew that not only was sleep vital for our baby’s proper development but that we were also forming bad habits that would be difficult to break in the future. I had heard about Rene through a friend and it was upon this friend’s recommendation that we decided to engage Rene for a home visit to see if she could assist us.
Rene ... stayed with us for approximately five hours. During this time, Rene demonstrated her unique method of settling which involves listening and responding to your baby’s noises and cries to interpret their needs and allowing your baby to put themselves to sleep. Rene provided us with expert advice, practical tips and necessary confidence to ensure we were able to apply her technique after she left us. Reassuringly, she also informed us we could call her any time if we had any queries. I don’t believe anyone or any organisation in Brisbane offers such a specialised and personalised service such as Rene’s.
During her home visit, Rene also provided us with advice on other issues such as breastfeeding, nursery set-up and how to establish a 24-hour routine. Engaging Rene for a home visit, I believe, was one of the best things we could ever have done for our baby. Following her visit, we were able to establish an excellent routine which has not only ensured our baby has received her much needed sleep but has also ensured we have been able to maintain our sanity, become more confident and better parents, and most importantly, get more enjoyment from our baby.
I remain in contact with Rene for my baby’s monthly health checks. During these health checks, Rene conducts growth and development assessment and answers any questions I may have concerning breastfeeding, nutrition and feeding, settling, sleeping and parenting in general. In particular, I have found Rene’s advice on nutrition and feeding to be excellent. For example, she advised me when to start my baby on solid food and finger food and what types of food to give her. My baby is a very good eater and I believe this is testament to Rene’s sound advice in this area.
Rene has a wealth of experience and knowledge in maternal, infant and child health. I believe she provides a valuable service for the community at a reasonable fee and I would highly recommend her to all parents who require one-on-one post-natal assistance or child rearing and health advice. In fact, I have recommended Rene to several of my friends who have small babies and they have all been extremely happy with her service.
I have recently found out that I am pregnant with my second child, and although we will be more experienced and better equipped to manage this time around, we will nevertheless arrange for Rene to visit our home again so that we can ensure we get off to a good start from the outset with our newborn.
